From Classroom to Career – How NDIS Support Helps Young People Transition Into Work

Career, NDIS, Support

Leaving school can feel like stepping into the unknown.

For young people living with disability, that step can seem even more overwhelming. At Hire Consult, we’re here to make sure it’s a leap forward—not a stumble.

Why the transition period matters

The years after high school are full of potential. It’s when dreams take shape, independence grows, and careers begin. But without the right support, many young people are left unsure of their next step.

That’s where the NDIS comes in

The NDIS offers specific support to help school leavers build life skills and prepare for work—known as School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES). Through SLES, we help young people:

  • Discover what they’re passionate about
  • Learn essential workplace routines
  • Build confidence in interviews and group settings
  • Try out real jobs through work experience
  • Learn daily living skills like budgeting and travel

A guided journey, not a rushed one

Every person’s path is different. Some may be ready to jump into paid work. Others might need time to build confidence or develop specific skills. Our role is to walk beside each participant at their own pace, offering encouragement, guidance and practical tools.

Success beyond the job offer

Getting a job is just one part of the picture. Keeping it, enjoying it, and growing within it—that’s the real win. That’s why we continue to offer on-the-job support, mentoring, and training long after the first shift begins.
